New River Valley Amateur Radio Club
Meeting was held over the air on club repeaters due to COVID-19 concerns.
In addition, a simultaneous Zoom session was held.
Meeting called to order at 7:00 PM

Check-in of officers
First round of check-ins of members and other listeners
*Reports*
Secretary’s Report – Edward Lener
Full report sent to club reflector on August 3rd. No corrections or
additions received.
Treasurer’s Report – Steve Allen
Still waiting on monthly bank statement. No activity in the past month.
Club is in good financial standing. Email for further details.
WinLink Update – Danny Wylam
Tested both gateways and are they working. Let him know if you encounter
any problems using the system.
Repeater Update – Mike Herring
Things generally seem to be working well. Clock is drifting a little; plan
a trip up the mountain to check on a few things. Let him know of any
problems.
Second round of check-ins of members and other listeners
*Old Business*
Fox Hunt – Cam Coble
Another fox hunt was held on August 14th in Randolph Park in Dublin. There
were four who attended the breakfast, and three participants in the
foxhunt. The foxes were very close in frequency, adding to the difficulty
level.
Third and final call for check-ins.
*New Business*
Youth Center Pulaski – Cam Coble
Since we get the use of the facilities in Randolph Park for free the club
has typically made a donation to the Youth Center. Len Peters made a
motion, seconded by Mike Herring to donate the usual amount of $100. A
roll call vote was held and the motion passed unanimously. Steve Allen will
handle getting the donation made.
Club Build Project – Cam Coble
Has been looking into options for kit building. Want to have a series with
progressively more challenging builds. Decided to go with a fixed frequency
CW transceiver in the 40-meter band. Don’t need an amateur license to
build or receive but will of course need one to transmit.
There will be a series of units
Unit 1: Setup, Soldering, and a Dummy Load
Unit 2: Toroids
Unit 3: CW Transceiver
Unit 4: Band-Pass Filter
Unit 5: Assembly and Use
More details are on the club web site at

Reviews for Club Website – Cam Coble
Looking for reviews of anything related to amateur radio. Need content for
the web site. Pictures as well as text are welcome. Think of it as a
knowledge transfer from you to others.
*Blings n Things* – An Antenna to Remember
Members discussed their favorite antennas for different situations.
Meeting adjourned at 7:55 PM.
There were a total of 11 check-ins plus net control.
