Good morning everyone,
It was late when the Zoom finally finished up (the officers stayed on to
discuss some matters) but this morning I went back and dug out all the old
sign-in sheets from 2019. Aside from the January eatin' meeting, which
always has lots of family, we averaged about 21 club members per meeting.
Even if all five of those additional people had voted no, there would have
been no change in the result. (Of the 16 votes cast, we had 12 in favor, 2
against, and 2 abstentions).
Even though we are still not meeting in person I for one feel good about
this decision and hope others do as well. We had all four of the officers
in agreement. We had the vote publicized beforehand. We had more than
double the quorum required in the bylaws. We had time for plenty of
discussion and input from everyone during the meeting, We had a favorable
assessment of the rig selected from a club member who owns one himself
along with positive signal reports from others. And we are still being
fiscally responsible - while we haven't been able to share full details on
the club's finances over the air, even after purchasing the new Yaesu
FT-991A and a manual tuner, we should have a balance remaining that exceeds
what I found reported at this same point in 2019.
I think it was Bill Turner who pointed out last night that Field Day is
also a chance for the club to reach out to the public and potentially
recruit area hams (or make new ones!). This now gives us at least one rig
with the "wow" factor to help do so.
