[nrv-hams] Primary station consideration for March meeting

For our March meeting Monday 22nd @ 7pm, I’d like to consider rounding out
our third operating station for field day with a new club transceiver. I’ve
been pondering this for some time and feel that it would be a good thing to
have a modern radio for club members to use for field day, as well as other
events. I really want to get us more active with other things such as the
Audie Murphy event, winter field day, and other club operations. With this
in mind, I constructed a list of needs.

The base requirements I tried to meet are:

-          Modern/waterfall/easy to use

-          Works well in a contest (like Field Day when everyone is jammed
into small spaces)

-          100 Watts HF

-          VHF/UHF capabilities

-          Field portable

The concluding model I would like to recommend is the Yaesu FT-991A. Go

It’s currently not in stock, but they are expecting them before field day.

As far as money goes, we have adequate funds to cover this, still leaving
us with plenty for maintenance to our repeater systems, or anything else
that should come up.
