7/26/2021



New River Valley Amateur Radio Club

Meeting was held over the air on club repeaters due to COVID-19 concerns.
In addition, a simultaneous Zoom session was held.



Meeting called to order at 7:00 PM

*Reports*

Secretary’s Report – Edward Lener

Full report sent to club reflector on June14th. No corrections or additions
received.



Treasurer’s Report – Cam Coble for Steve Allen

Steve emailed the officer the reports for the past two months. Club is in
good financial standing. Email Cam directly if you have questions.



WinLink Update – Danny Wylam

Both gateways were tested last week and are working. Let him know if you
encounter any problems using the system.



Repeater Update – Mike Herring

Everything seems to be working well. Let him know of any problems.

*Old Business*

Audie Murphy Special Event – Danny Wylam

Danny coordinated the special event held on May 29th near the Audie Murphy
Memorial. Fought weather and band conditions. Had 62 total contacts, 10 of
which were in the area and included several club members. Received 17 QSL
requests.



Field Day 2021 – Cam Coble  (See more at

Cam gave a detailed report on Field Day which will be made available on the
club web site.  Held on June 26th and 27th.  Had 7 licensed operators and
recorded 17 visitors during the event. The total claimed score was 970, up
from last year.  Total bonus points were 1,050 – also up from before.  Held
an educational event on calculating RF exposure to comply with new FCC
rules.  Mike (KE4RGY) was the first to make 80 contacts and won a 2021 ARRL
Handbook set.





Fox Hunt – Cam Coble (See more at

Another fox hunt was held on held on July 24th in Bissell Park in Radford.
There were eight participants who braved the heat. There were three foxes
to find, each more difficult than the last.

*New Business*

Cam raised the issue of resuming in-person meetings. Ed reported that he
had recently checked with the hospital but they are not yet opening up
their meeting room for outside groups.  No other comments either pro or con
were made but Cam encouraged people to send their thoughts to the officers
by email.



*Blings n Things* – How Swell do you SWL?

Members discussed short wave listening radios and listening tips.
Recommended guides include the World Radio TV Handbook: Directory of Global
Broadcasting (75th ed., 2021) and the Worldwide Listening Guide (9th ed.,
2020).



Meeting adjourned at 7:40 PM.



There were a total of 12 check-ins plus net control. Of those, 8 people
also participated on Zoom.
