Everyone, the reflector does not allow attachments but below is a plain
text copy of the minutes from our February meeting (seems a long time ago
doesn't it?). This way we won't have to try to read all this over the
air. Please don't worry about formatting or any minor points but if there
are any significant errors or omissions let me know.

Also please remember to send me any agenda items for the March 23rd
meeting. So far I haven't received any.

Note - Frank's Winlink presentation will be rescheduled at a later date.

Edward Lener, AK4IS
Secretary

Minutes
02/24/2020
New River Valley Amateur Radio Club
Lewis Gale Hospital Montgomery
Meeting called to order at 7:00PM

Introduction of new officers

Welcome and introductions

Secretary?s Report ? Edward Lener

Reviewed the minutes of the January 11 meeting.

Treasurer?s Report ? Steve Allen
With the change in treasurer the old account was closed out. Funds were
transferred to a new
account at the National Bank in Dublin.

Repeater Update ? Mike Herring
Both repeaters are currently working OK. Let him know if any problems arise.

WinLink ? Danny Wylam
No update

Old Business
None.

New Business
The annual review of club finances was held at the home of Pete Burkey on
February 6, 2020.
This review was for the period of Jan 1 to December 31, 2019. The audit
committee included
Steve Allen, Cam Coble, and Danny Wylam. All records were found to be in
order and the
committee expressed their appreciation for Pete Burkey in his final year as
club treasurer.

Cam led a presentation laying out a vision for the club in 2020 with an
overarching aim for us to
become a relevant, professional, functional, and technically proficient
organization that our
local community thinks of in times of need. The plan included both short-
and long-term goals
along with possible events, activities, and presentations for the year. At
most meetings he will
endeavor to complete club business within the first 15 minutes to allow
more time for sharing
and learning.

Cam made a call for members of a 2020 Field Day Planning Committee. Chris
Peters, Cam Coble,
and Jim Hassell volunteered.

Cam also shared his ideas for a year-long contest as a way to encourage
members to make
more contacts and explore new means of communication. Final details will be
shared via the
club listserv.

Frank Howard reminded everyone of the Southwest Virginia Auxiliary
Communications Group.
There are several planned events in 2020 including four horse rides and a
triathlon, all of which
need licensed radio amateurs to help support communications.

Edward Lener shared a double-sided sheet he had prepared listing a number
of books on
amateur radio and basic electronics that may be useful to area hams looking
to improve their
skills. All Virginia residents are eligible to check out books from the VT
Library. A copy of the list
will also be posted on the club web site.

Danny Wylam reviewed plans for a special event on Saturday, May 30 th to
honor World War II
hero Audie Murphy. He hopes to operate from or near the Audie Murphy
Monument located
near New Castle, Virginia. An announcement has been sent to QST and more
details will be
forthcoming.

Blings n Things ? Tips and Tricks
Several members shared useful tips or tricks they had learned.
Rick Armstrong, KS4XO, brought numerous amateur radio related items to the
meeting for sale.
All proceeds were to be donated to the club. Rick will be moving to North
Carolina.

Meeting officially adjourned approximately 8:40 PM and members then
proceeded to take a
look at the many items for sale.

The next meeting will be March 23 at 7:00 PM.

Hi Ed. Charlie and I are hoping to make more meetings this year.
I'm curious about the four horse rides mentioned in the minutes. Which ones are they?
Thanks!
