**HAM Radio Licence Preparation Class**
HAM Radio, even in the internet and smart phone age, is the method that
works when all else fails. In addition to emergency communication; the
hobby offers public service, high-tech, and competitive activities that
range from local voice communications to international and satellite
possibilities.
This class is open to all members of the community; however, the class
is limited to 25 spots. There will be reading assignments between class
meetings.
The entry-level technician class licence requires passing a 35 question
multiple-choice test. The class, taught by local hams, will be based on
ARRL HAM Radio Licence Manual (4th Edition) (**ISBN-10:**162595087X
available on Amazon for $30) and will include hands-on and classroom
activities. The class will meet each Wednesday evening starting
September 18th and ending November 13th, 7-9 p.m. Most sessions will be
held in MCB 455, but some nights we will meet at the VT Amateur Radio
Association (VTARA) "shack" in Squires to get experience operating
different radios.
The class periods are listed below:
Sept. 18 (Chapters 1 & 2)
Sept. 25 (Chapters 3)
Oct 2 (Chapter 4)
Oct. 9 (Chapter 5)
