Ben, I think I have to agree with Dave on this. A little bit of notice
would be nice this is going to happen. I was up and in here and didn't
know about it as I stop reading my emails about 2:30 PM to partake in other
projects and do some reading here. Or working outside on antennas. :) If
we knew in advance we could prepare and be there for all of to get an idea
of who can contact whom. But then if it wa an emergency, we would not have
a lot of notice and a phone tree should be made to contact members of
problems. Or to get on the 147.555 simpletax to do this. Which by the way
is the Digital calling frequency in this area by the way. No, not
sanctioned by ARRL or SERA, but we had to do something to find an area for
those of us with digital radios to talk simplex. Most it is Yaesu System
Fusion, but I have heard D-STAR and something else I am not sure of, it may
be DMR, but it's off somehow.
Even though digital it is a good bet it is a safe place to hold a simplex
net at anytime. I am willing to be on the air anytime with someone who
wishes to test their radios on simplex into Floyd County, over in the
Terry's Fork area of Check. Or EM97ua if you like.
