While puzzling about this during tonite's simplex net, I was browsing the
owner's manual and came across the section about "Tone Squelch" ... hmmmm,
that sounds like it could cause this sort of behavior if it was enabled.
Of course, it was.  As soon as I turned it off, I could hear everyone
(left) loud and clear.   Ultimately it boiled down to a convergence of
Occam's Razor and RTFM  ;-)

Next week should tell a wholly different story!
