I've got an event you or other N4NRV members might be interested in; the
APRS Golden Packet Event. Each July, hams along the entire Appalachian
Trail set up a temporary VHF packet link from Georgia to Maine (in 15
hops!) Last year, we were successful for only the second time.
In years past, I've helped VTARA man a position at Comer's Rock, just south
of Wytheville. Since I am no longer in town, we were looking for
volunteer(s) to fill in the gap. We've got the gear ready to go in the
K4KDJ shack. This is a great opportunity for VHF, SOTA, and Emergency
Communications enthusiasts.
Date/Time: Sat. July 21, 11am-2pm
Location: Comers Rock Recreation Area Overlook (36.764375, -81.228559)
Packet Freq: 144.340 MHz, UHF Voice Freq: 445.925 MHz
