past, but it's been a while because the antenna had to be taken down for a
remodeling project.  Now it's back up and I don't seem to be able to get
the MFJ-939 to tune using "what I remember" (set power low (10W, and CW,
press XMIT) as the  manual tuning procedure.  At this point, I don't know
if it is a problem with the antenna (an off-center fed horizontal dipole
from MFJ, IIRC), the coax cable, or "operator error".

I have reset the MFJ-939 to factory defaults, run all the diagnostics from
self-test thru the power down & relay tests with no failures, per the user
manual.

However, when I try to tune the antenna at 7.255 MHz/CW/10W (where I have
previously talked to some ECARS folks), I get a solid green LED on the
MFJ-939 (seems normal), but when try to XMIT on either SSB, at higher power
(25 W) the green LED goes out and I get some relay clicking and a Morse
beep w/red LED blink error code(?) that I don't understand (I've forgotten
what  MC I learned 60 years ago) and the green LED stays out.

FWIW, I seem to get the same error code when I XMIT on SSB whether the
antenna cable is connected or not, which suggests to me a cable problem,
but I don't have any other test equipment to check it out.

I'd appreciatee any suggestions - other than buy some test equipment (no
more hobby money at this point).

Thanks,
Dave

ignorant, it's that they've been taught so much that just isn't so!
