Good morning,
A wind advisory is in effect for most of the area along and either side of
the Blue Ridge, including the Mountain Empire of Southwest VA. This due to
strong winds behind a cold front today, combined with still some weaker
trees and/or limbs from the snow we had over a weak ago. So power outages
may occur. Gusts up to 50 to 55 mph are possible in the advisory area,
especially along the higher ridges, with 30 to 45 mph elsewhere.
The Storm Prediction Center has a marginal risk of severe storms today
mainly just clipping southern Charlotte County, southeast Halifax County,
VA and southeast Caswell County. Overall severe threat is low, and most of
the activity will be east of the piedmont by 1-2pm this afternoon, so
thinking better severe threat is out toward the coast.
Still watching the snow threat for Friday night into Saturday and will be
fine tuning that forecast over the next couple of days, but latest models
favoring a few inches of wet snow, especially north of a line from
Bluefield, WV to Roanoke, Va---namely the Alleghany Highlands and
Greenbrier Valley.
Attached images are of the wind advisory area, expected wind gust image and
severe threat today.
