CQ OM!
Seeking reliable Ham home and antenna clues, specifically including Bburg,
Cburg and Dublin!
I'm Gene N3EV, presently located in Northern VA, and VA TECH Alumnus
"coming home".
I'm planning to relocate to SW VA very soon, most likely in these towns, or
nearby in the Montgomery county area.
I would greatly appreciate good local Ham advice on Ham-friendly areas,
especially suitable for a nice antenna farm with modest towers. And to
beware Ham-unfriendly areas, bad dog HOAs, restrictive zoning, and other
frequent woes...
During frequent surfing of Zillow, there seem to be many nice homes in the
area, but their suitability for antennas is uncertain. Brief surveys for
relevant local ordinances are unclear.
So I located you or your fine organization via the ARRL website, and I was
hoping that you would have a clue! Hopefully many?
For example, can I erect an HF tower in Blacksburg, or Christiansburg, or
Dublin, or any local town? Montgomery? Any limits (height, setback,
materials, uses, et al).
Or is it simpler to find a home nearby in the Montgomery or adjacent
counties? Good/bad areas? Acreage, 1, 5 10, more?
Also, which Ham clubs are most active in the area? I'm especially
interested in public service and rapidly deployable emergency
communications (disasters, SAR, race events, field days, et al) in both HF
& VHF. Especially NVIS, mobile tactical, MESH...
Good clues and advice appreciated, and also any additional contacts I
should reach out to?
Thanks & 73!
Gene :)
