This was received today from one of the hams I met in Puerto Rico earlier
this year. The Arecibo control room is a jaw-dropping technological place,
and these hams are lucky to be able to operate from there.
Arecibo Observatory On-the-Air this Sunday November 10.
As part of the celebration of its 50th anniversary, the Arecibo Observatory
in Puerto Rico will be On-the-Air with the amateur radio callsign KP4AO as a
special event station. They are inviting radio amateurs and their families
to come and operate the station that will be inside the Control Room. It
will go on the air from 1300 UTC until 2000 UTC. A Commemorative Certificate
will be available for those who make contacts with KP4AO as well for those
who operate the station. The special event is sponsored by the Caribbean
Amateur Radio Group and the Arecibo Observatory Radio Club. For more
information please write to wavilesjr at yahoo.com. Thanks to Serafin Martinez
- KP4FIE for the note
