Hams work and collect things for awards other than countries and states --
islands, for example. There is an Islands on the Air (IOTA) award program
sponsored by the Radio Society of Great Britain (www.islandchaser.com/). The
RSGB is the equivalent of the ARRL in the United Kingdom. There is also a
U.S. Islands Award (USi) program (www.usislands.org/).

Sean Kutzko KX9X will be operating next month from an island that has not
been on the air before. Here's his announcement:

"I have secured landing permission on Dewees Island, South Carolina
(SC-042), a private island with no cars, hotels or restaurants. It also
counts as part of IOTA NA-110. It has never been activated for USi before,
so I'll be looking for 25 QSOs to qualify the island. I'll be QRV on Friday,
Feb 1 from 1500-2000 UTC with my Yaesu 817 on both SSB/CW. Hope to work you
and give you a brand new island."

Sean will be operating QRP with portable antennas and signing KX9X/4.

Listen for him and give him a call. You might decide that collecting islands
is fun.
