*It is with great excitement that I pass on to all of you that the Floyd
Amateur Radio Society has started a School Club in Floyd County High
School. They have received the call sign of N4FCH and meet on Thursdays at
1530 local time. We have received a few offers of free radios for the
school, and have accepted them so we are on the way to being on the air.
Also out of Floyd (of course, look who's writing this) We have received the
repeater frequency pairs from SERA of 147.810-147.210 with a tone of
114.8. This repeater will be located at the 143 Harris Hart Road in Floyd
at the old County tower. The County and School Board have graciously let
us have the building and 1000 foot tower that the old low band PD, Fire,
and Rescue was in! The call sign will be W4FCV on the 2 meter and on the
442.900 will be N4USA/W4FCV repeater system. The 2 meter has a CAT-1000B
controller and the 440 now has a CAT-200B, also on the 2 meter is a weather
alert that will have the SAME code for Floyd on it.
For those interested (others can skip to the next paragraph) The
N4USA/W4FCV 440 repeater is a pair of Motorola CDM-1550 LS+ radios with the
power set at 20 watts, feeding into a 100 watt amplifier. The 2 meter
repeater is a pair of good old but trusted GE Delta SX radios, putting out
80 watts from the duplexers.
I am hoping to have the 440 back to it's place this week, it is ready to
go. The 2 meter is almost done, the cans have been tuned (our undying
thanks to a member of the Roanoke Club for this.) We have the hard line at
both sites and a replacement tower to go up to Howard's. Eventually we will
also have another 440 repeater in Check. It is done, just needs to be
tuned and placed in service. (Again) :)
If anyone has a dual band VHF/UHF antenna they would like to donate to the
School Club it would be greatly appreciated.
73 from Floyd for now
