NRVARC friends,

Feel free to share this with anyone who wants to prepare for the technician
license. If you want to be a part of facilitating the class let me know
and I will send a syllabus so you can see what is going on each night. All
licensed hams are welcome especially the first night. I try to give class
members a feel for ham radio, not just the answers to the test questions,
and ham radio is really you folks, right?

Thanks,

Ron N4AJT

Ham Radio License Preparation class: Ham radio, even in the internet and
smart phone age, is the method that works when all else fails. In addition
to emergency communications the hobby offers public service, high tech and
competitive activities that range from local voice communications to
international and satellite possibilities. The entry level technician
class license requires passing a 35 question multiple choice test. The
class, taught by local hams, will be based on the ARRL license manual 2nd
edition and will include hands-on and classroom activities. The book (
http://tinyurl.com/85lg8fb) is $24 through the class (you can get it
yourself if you like) and the test fee of $15 is payable before the class
begins.

In our last class all the participants passed and several advanced to the
next level, general class license. The test will be offered on campus as
part of the final class session. There is some loaner radio gear available
to licensed CERT members and there will be opportunities to participate in
regular on-the-air 'nets' and public service events like bicycle races,
drills and parades.

Tentative dates are each Tuesday early evening starting Feb 14 to April 17
(skipping Spring Break week), time decided by class members, but likely to
be 6:00 – 8:30pm or 6:30 to 9:00. Location is likely to be Squires Student
Center.

Complete the survey at http://tinyurl.com/7w9qxuc to join the class.
