Good Morning NRV Club Members,
TODAY (Saturday, Jan. 7th) the New River Valley Amateur Radio Club will meet
for BREAKFAST at the Shoney's Restaurant on Rte. 100 in Dublin for
breakfast. [Usually the club meets at that restaurant the first Saturday in
the month, so THIS month we will meet there TODAY!]
Folks will be arriving at about 8:00 AM.
Afterward, at about 9:30, we will meet in the Dublin Fire Station to start
making 4 Pass-Band Filters which we will use at Field Day. These filters
will stop the SSB stations from hearing the CW stations in their headphones,
and vise-versa--the CW stations won't hear the SSB stations. Since all the
stations and antennas are so close together, there has been a lot of
interference in past years. These filters will stop the interference.
So the first step will be to wind toroids with wire. The toroids look like
little donuts, except they are made of tiny iron filings encased in a body
of ceramic-like stuff. We will use #16 wire and will pull the wire the exact
number of turns needed for the filters. There are 10 filters to go into each
of the 4 boxes, so this will be an all-club project today. You need to bring
no tools, just yourself. This will be a super learning experience!
I hope you will be able to come to either or both events. I will have my
cell phone with me today if you have any questions. Coming late to the
toroid-winding party will be OK.
73,
Carter
