This coming weekend there are three state QSO parties - "QSO party" is
another name for a contest - that could help make progress towards the
Worked All States award.
Hawaii, Kansas, and Ohio are the states. Ohio isn't very hard to work
because it has lots of hams. Kansas can be more of a challenge because there
are not so many hams there. Hawaii is a nice catch indeed. It counts as both
a state for Worked All States and a DX entity for DX Century Club (DXCC).
I know Hawaii isn't a separate country. It's a long story as to why Hawaii,
Alaska, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands all count for DXCC.
The Kansas and Hawaii contests allow contacts on phone, CW, and digital.
Ohio allows only CW and phone. Hawaii is the only one of the three that
allows contacts on 160 meters. I need Hawaii on 160 meters, so wish me luck.
You can find information on the exact dates, times, and details of 3 state
QSO parties and other operating events on WA7BNM's contest calendar web site
