Hi everybody,
I apologize for using an old email address for my Update 1 on Max Orr. Here
is what I wanted you all to see, minus having all your email addresses (one
of which was incorrect!) showing up!
I apologize for my error.
Here is the message I had intended for you all to see. If this is a second
copy, I'm sorry.

Hello New River Valley ARC Members:
Our fellow club member Max Orr WB8FLE, of 5.1 miles south of Pearisburg
fame, yesterday was operated on by a heart surgeon in Kettering, OH, and
Max's wife Mary called to tell me the following information. She wanted me
to send this information out to all the club members.
The operation went very well, Mary reported, and Max is now in Cardiac ICU.
He received 2 units of new blood, and she said Max looked very good as he
came out of the Operating Room. Mary says this hospital is really top notch,
and she said the nurses in ICU sure seemed wonderful.
Max had had at least two heart operations in the past, and had had to have
lots of wires in his chest to hold everything together. Well, these wires
had to be removed yesterday, and that was supposed to be a difficult job.
Then, the doc was to put in a little "tube" which was grown by a very
helpful pig. Once that was in place the doc was to put in a 3-4" length of
special tubing into his aorta. I know this sounds tricky at best, but the
doc assured Max that this procedure was "very routine!" How about that?!
The best news out of all of this is that Max will no longer have to take any
Coumadin (sp?) blood thinner, which requires lots of blood testing often,
often, often. That will make Max's life a LOT happier. Also, the doc told
Max that after his recovery he will be able to do almost anything he wants
to--including shoveling gravel in his driveway! Sounds great, yes??? I think
so, too. I know he will want to do lots more DXing, working QRP, working the
IOTA DXpeditions and such!
Max does not have a room number yet, but you can send cards to the following
address:
Dwight (Max) Orr
c/o Kettering Medical Center
3535 Southern Boulevard
Kettering, OH 45429
I am sure your cards will get to him OK. So please send him something to
encourage him to get back into the swing of things.
73,
Carter N3AO
