What a great idea, Rick. I sure want to have a look at one of your thumb
screw type mounting brackets. Have you ever tried to carry Hamsticks with
you on an airplane, and, if so, how did you do that?

Hi Patrick,
I don't know of an article but here's how I've done it from a similar
situation and can loan you all the stuff. I use a thumb screw type mounting
bracket that will attach to the railing. It has a receptacle to attach a
"hamstick" or equivalent rigid single band antenna. These are about 5' long
when collapsed and 7-8' with the whip extended. I also attach at least one
(more often 2) counterpoises to the shield side of the mounting bracket. The
counterpoises are 1/4 wavelength wires for the frequencies you plan to
operate on. I have a nice collection of hamsticks now (thanks to KE4RGY)
that cover at least 10 - 40 m bands.
When do you plan to go?

Rick KS4XO

Group,
Anyone have a suggestion on a web site/article on how to string a wire
antenna from a hotel room balcony? Am thinking about taking my IC 718 to
the beach where I will have an ocean front room.
73,
Patrick
