[nrv-hams] An LDG S9 in the woods, thoughts

Hi Patrick,
I have a Butternut HF9V vertical here in the yard. The radials go around
trees, stumps, the house, and garage and it has done a great job. As to
burying the radials, there are two camps right now on this. A study done
by a ham (I can't remember his name or call) with way to much time on his
hands, never mind the money involved, showed that raised radials vs buried
vs laid on the ground showed no real gain on any of the systems. His
comments were that it was a lot of work to bury the radials vs mowing the
grass in that area very short, laying the radials down on top of the
ground, stapling it down and in the spring the grass will grow over it and
there will be no problems with lawn mowers or stuff. :) Mine are from 6 to
80 meters, and I have 4 - 1/4 wave ground radials down for each band. I
really need to lay some more down, but.......Oh well, some day.
Another great vertical is the Hustler BTV series. They do a good job even
as a portable rig with temporary radials.
Good luck, if you need some help let me know.
