Hi Patrick KJ4TRT,
I have never seen this new Emergency Radio trailer, but I know a bit about
its builder, Glen Sage W4GHS.
Glen lives south of here in Gladesboro, near Hillsville. He has been the
ARRL Section Manager for Virginia, and has operated in the Gulf states
impacted by Hurricane Katrina. He is one of the nicest people in the world,
and has inspired many, many people to become hams, and to get themselves
prepared to serve their local communities.
He has written SEVERAL Simulated Emergency Tests (SETs), and I have
participated in some of them, using my Winlink Emergency station. He has
been instrumental in getting folks up and running on Winlink, by the way,
and has worked closely with our local Winlink guru, Dave Potter W4RPI, in
Roanoke. I am imagining that there will definitely be a Winlink station in
the new emergency communications trailer. I'm sure there will be both an HF
and a VHF station in there, too.
Glen is also very active as a DXer and Contester, so his skills are at the
highest level.
I cannot say enough good things about Glen Sage. We are SO fortunate to have
him with us here in southwest Virginia. He is a continuing inspiration, and
I hope you will be able to come to the club meeting to see and get into his
new emergency radio trailer. Who knows... Maybe you will even be able to
make a contact or two...
73,
Carter N3AO
