I am restoring another Hallicrafters S-38C right now, all new caps and all new resistors, some new tubes ,new pilot light, plus lubrication, pot cleaning, switch cleaning, and re-alignment. Plan to use it with my Philmore NT-200 clone (6V6-6L6). I also have a couple, the original, Hameco Clones of the Ameco AC-1. The DX-60s are sitting on the shelf looking at me. Once this is together, I plan to put together a 10 watt modulator for the Philmore clone as all the parts are here in a box.

Bye the way, I did the "S-38 Guy" mods to my S-38C last night. That is, move the on-off switch to the "hot" lead, use of polarized plug, and use of a Y2 cap. Doing them there are some errors as he must have done the cap change including the Y2 cap before he did the switch change as he has the Y2 cap (C27) in the original spot which is not as good as putting it across the solder lug terminals installed when doing the switch position change. The switch is now between the "hot" polarized outlet plug and the C27 (not C17). At least this is the case with a RUN 2 S-38C receiver.

If anyone is looking for a great project, I'd suggest building a Philmore NT-200 clone. This is a great rig. I built a Gross Eagle back in 1953. It looks like Philmore copied 99% of the Gross Eagle in their offering. (I still have a Gross Eagle).
