I think I'm missing something obvious... it's been a long time since I've done any digital modes, and never with this PC.  I'm simply failing to get it to transmit.
Running WSJT-X v2.7.0 (installed this morning) connected via USB to the IC-9700.  CAT control is working, as it's hopping back and forth between 2m and 70cm on receive.  In the WSJT-X configuration, radio tab, PTT Method is set to CAT.  The Test CAT button goes green when clicked.  The Test PTT button turns red, but the rig does not go into TX.

I tried clicking 'Tune' in the main window of WSJT-X, but again, the radio does not transmit.  I tried to use VOX instead by changing the PTT Mode in the configuration and enabling VOX on the rig, but no joy.

I'm certain that I have the correct soundcard settings in WSJT-X.  Just for fun, I temporarily set the WSJT-X output to the PC speakers as a test, and the Tune button gives me a nice loud tone when I do that.

In the menu of the 9700, Connectors...Mod Input is set to USB, and I have both bands set to USB-D, so in theory it should be getting audio via USB.  But that does not seem to be the case.

So in summary, I can't get WSJT-X to key the rig, either via CAT or via VOX.  Any ideas?

Yes--  I am using fixed pointing for now too although I do have computer
control of the rotor so I could have it rotate to different headings every
so often.  If we keep doing this for a while, I will deploy that.

But yes, I'd offer that even lousy veticals like a discone or a J-pole
per band would work well for this.  Certainly loops like Squalos or
similar are great too.

From the do as I say, not as I do department:  A couple watts is probably
good since the idea is to see how good the path is-- enhancement or
not, etc.

I am running 25w on 2m and about 10w on 432 and 1296.  My -736R does not
have per-band power control and was set up for driving into external PAs
at a fixed level on each of those bands.  So, I have the PAs off but am
stuck at these higher levels on the three bands.
