Dog-gone it Mel.
Last summer got a call during the contest from Mel asking since they were in the area if they could stop by for an eyeball.  I said great, see you at 330pm.
The wife made snacks and drinks.   The arrival time came and no Mel.   Knowing something must be wrong I called him on the telephone.   He was at the Barrel Drive In at West Union eating fried chicken.  Said they couldn't resist a place like that.
About twenty years ago was actually driving through Rochester on US 52 and saw them in a Sedan that had Ham license plates.  I got up next beside and started waving.   I don't think we made the connection.   Seconds later I pulled my vehicle (with Ham Plates also) directly in front of him and slowed down.

    RIP ole timer.

I got word last night that Mel, KC0P passed away in his sleep on March 30th.

Mel was a good long-time  friend and loved ham radio.    A ready  supporter of  NLRS,  he
was a consistent NLRS Monthly Breakfast attendee and usually had interesting and
informative presentations for Aurora meetings.  As an avid VHF+ contester he operated
Rover (along with Carol, N0HZO)  in most of the contests (including January in
Minnesota!).  He will be missed by NLRS and VHF+ contesters in the upper mid-west.

There's talk of a radio garage sale (NO details) in Rochester "sometime" in the future.
