Lloyd Berg, N9LB (SK)

Lloyd Berg N9LB lost his battle with prostate cancer on January 3rd. He was a devoted husband and father. He was 71 years old.

Lloyd obtained his First-Class Radiotelephone license while still in high school and soon began work in broadcasting. He served as Chief Station Engineer for radio and TV stations in Wisconsin, Florida and Iowa.

Lloyd was well known in the amateur radio community as an accomplished DXer and contester. Licensed continuously since 1969, he operated from 630 meters to 10 GHz. Lloyd was on the DXCC Honor Roll, held 10-band DXCC, and recently received the Fred Fish Memorial Award #41.

Lloyd was a lifetime member of the ARRL, the Society of Midwest Contesters, Central States VHF Society, the Northern Lights Radio Society as well as other local clubs. Lloyd served as President, Vice President and Secretary Treasurer of the Madison DX Club and continued to be a key member of the club until his passing. Lloyd was known most recently for his monthly DX Reports and for his excellent programs. His “Lightning Protection for Amateur Radio Stations” was presented widely and has received thousands of views on YouTube.

Lloyd mentored many hams at all levels of experience who benefited from his technical knowledge and practical skills. He will be remembered for his love of amateur radio and his willingness to help others. Rest in peace OM.
