Hi Everyone,
At a recent breakfast I was asked "what are we doing for the August 10 G weekend?"
I haven't heard from anyone else, it is still pretty early, however, I would like to try to do what was planned for last September. That is, fixed sites at Wilmot Rest Stop, EN15lj86HO on Saturday and then at the Nicollet Tower site EN15KP48BG, on Sunday.
Saturday the rover route starts near Northfield and travels down
I-35 into Iowa before turning West on Iowa A38, using a few sites
near Forest City. Then turning back north to end the day at
Kiester, EN33en03PT. Allow some time at Kiester to try long paths
with W9ZIH, Hannibal, MO EM49hq, KØAWU, N9LB and other
Wisconsin ops, and if on for the contest W7XU, KMØT and WØLGQ are easy from Kiester.
KØMHC if he is on from
home. Other long shots are to WQØP at 521 km and NØOY at 629 km. Maybe even
K2YAZ if there is time for aircraft scatter. Then spend the night
in Albert Lea. Distances to Wilmot average around 330 km. Longest
about 370 km.
Sunday Start at Kiester again to try any long paths that we didn't have time for, or missed on Saturday. Sundays route is along I-90 to either US 169 on MN 15. Then North for the day. Distance to the tower site starts at 360 km and gets shorter during the day. Ending the day around 250 km.
Neither days sites are necessarily good back to the Twin Cities
or the Rochester area. However, the distances are moderate so we
should still be able to make contacts in those directions.
Larry, WA9TT, has told me he would like to rove with me. Who else is thinking about roving?
Jim, KØKFC, is interested in going to SD this year. Lenny, KØSHF, has told me he would like to operate from Wilmot on Saturday and then from his EN26cg site on Sunday. Last September Donn, WA2VOI and Ray, WBØEBG had planned to go to SD. I haven't heard about this August from either of them yet.
What do you think? Who is interested in this route for August?
73, Gary WBØLJC
