Still looking for ham volunteers for this weekend’s marathon.

Give back to your community as a skilled ham radio operator! Training to be of service such as Twin Cities Marathon, Skywarn, Public Safety, or MNVOAD. Get prepared for the next disaster or emergency.

 

The Twin Cities Marathon runs on October 2nd from 7am to 2pm. Net One operates on the Minneapolis side of the river. Sign up here: http://www.aresmn.org and fill out the form on the page. Consider signing up for ARES and helping with other events.

 

Then the following two weekends train for other emergency communications events!

 

AERO 101: Introduction to Emergency Communications

October 8th, 2022 @ 1pm to 4pm - Webinar

Course Objectives

· Describe the roles of amateur radio operators in emergency communications

· Be able to describe the role of amateur radio during emergency communications and list potential agencies that may be served

· Be able to describe appropriate etiquette and professional interactions during emergency communications operations

· Be able to describe what a “net” is and how they are used

· Be able to describe basic net operations

· Be able to demonstrate proper basic radio communications skills

· Be able to describe the purpose, use, and benefits of the Incident Command System

· Be able to list and demonstrate how to complete pertinent ICS forms used in radio communications

Prerequisites for the class: FEMA ICS-100 and ICS-700 classes. Copies of your certificates will be needed for admissions to the class.

AERO 102: Advance Emergency Communications for the Amateur Radio Operator

Oct 15th, 2022 1pm to 4pm - Webinar

Course Objectives

·         Communicate information effectively to incident personnel

·         Provide effective communications support during routine or non-emergency situations

·         Provide effective communications support during emergency situation

·         Demonstrate familiarity with basic COMU (Communications Unit) functions capabilities

·         Demonstrate proper application of communications policies and procedures

·         Demonstrate proper use of communications equipment

 

Prerequisites for the class: FEMA ICS-200 and ICS-800 classes. Copies of your certificates will be needed for admissions to the class.
