Ah Brad, I will need to look at the newer ones to see that power connector, I guess I never thought about it.

As for the snapdragon processor, its my understanding the flex radio software wont run on it… that’s a deal breaker for me. I have not heard if that has been fixed.

As for Jims comments on heating, I have not run into that issue with the I7. Perhaps that would be an issue with ambient temp…Yes it gets hot, but its supposed to..I personally wont sit in a 90 degree car doing QSOs 😊

Im using WIN 11 on all my surfaces, have had no issues…

Jon,

Along Mikes note...

I recently acquired the newest 2025 MS Surface pro 12" (with detachable keyboard and pen) and have been very impressed with it.

It runs Win11 with a Snapdragon processor, so you may have compatibility issues with some software as Mike mentioned.

After seeing your question I did download wsjt, N1MM and N3FJP logger. All installed and seem to run just fine but I didn't fully test. If you want more details I might have some time this weekend to set it up with a radio and run some Q's with it.

Battery life is amazing, nice bright and sharp screen, removable keyboard so it can be used as a tablet. The newer surface pros only have 2 ports, USB C, which it charges through with >27 watt charger. They no longer have the proprietary power connector that sounds like what Mike has.

Might fit your needs depending on your definition of 'low cost'

Jon, I use a Microsoft surface, with removable keyboard, touchscreen - been bullet proof. Need to be sure that it has intel processor (and 16G ram), as the Microsoft processer (non intel) I don’t think works for some programs. I don’t know the voltage… it does have a power cube that shows multiple voltages, 1.5, 5v, 15V… with a magnet 6 pin power connector.. so I’m guessing 3 for the hots and 3 independent grounds? Weird..

I use an I7 version, never had an issue running software – WSJT and logging. Screen is small, but expandable with a small USB C screen or two, that works great. Removable keyboard is great (magnetic) so can use as a tablet or a laptop.

I have a question for the PC brain trust.

I may be in the market for a low cost netbook/laptop that would support the following operating style. When mobile/roving,

*	I running WSJT-x for FT8/MSK etc, Also run N1MM software for contest logging (VHF or HF).
*	I live in a 12vdc World, its needs to be 12 vdc, no converters please.
*	Needs to be smallish in size as my Subaru radio shack cockpit is small. Think what it would be like to sit in a small car while operating FT8, etc.

I do not need a higher end laptop as I have one of those. Suggestions?
