[NLRS] Contest(s)

Greetings All,

The recent CQWW VHF Digital was fun and (at times) appropriately intense. I especially appreciated the strong EU opening that appeared during the last minutes. It was interesting to observe the utter confusion that ensued, (i.e., 'do DX', versus 'get those last few points in the contest'). HaHaHa.. I was most certainly in-this-mix, but I do Love It!

As for my own performance, I believe I did well but was somewhat hindered by the fact I was managing two radios without help from N1MM CAT automation. Aside from a cumbersome, across-the-room separation between the two rigs, my ability to catch dupes decreased monotonically as the QSO count increased. I've since corrected the N1MM issue. So hopefully, I'll do even better next time.

Regarding the upcoming 222MHz-and-Up Distance competition, I can temporarily replace the 2m antenna with a 70cm 14-el Yagi-Uda and operate fixed from my home QTH. QUESTION: Shall I try this? I'll have to verify the match and do a bit of climbing, but it's all within the envelope of possibility. Please advise.

I'd also like to query the group during our next meet-up, regarding one of the 1296MHz systems I'm planning. Basically, I'd like to collocate the transverter essentially at the antenna (i.e., on my roof) with a bias-T to provide power and am open to suggestions as to exactly how I might do this. My goal here is to avoid doing stupid things.

OK.. See you all soon!

Cheers/73 de JB/k8os
