Paul (W1VLF) has an identical PT54 Red Phlat LED with the lens, that Doug
(AD0CX) gave me at the November NLRS Breakfast.
Paul has tested the PT54 LED and discovered that it can be collimated to a
very narrow beam with the same fresnel lens that we are using for our K0THZ
Optical Transceiver (2X Carson Page Magnifier) without using any other lens
except the one that comes with the PT54 package. See the photo below. That
means the PT54 is a very good candidate for "Cloud Bounce" or "Water Tower
Bounce" QSO's. The only caveat is that it draws 13.5 Amps at 2.6V and
*dissipates
*35 Watts at full power. It Radiates 4.2 Watts at full power.
