Oh no, Mel. This is hard to take.
Over the years one of my goals in the various VHF+ contests was to work Mel and Carol during their many many roves. We had lots of Qs on those "fun" bands like 222, 902, 1296 and a few on 2304, not to mention the usual 6, 2 and 432 bands. Like many of us Mel really enjoyed playing on 10 GHz too and I remember countless Qs on that band working with Mel while he peaked his dish.
Mel was often one of the very first to volunteer to share with us his knowledge and experience during the Aurora afternoon technical presentations. He had a knack of injecting a little bit of his dry humor to that only comes from the years of experience. He will be greatly missed.
Mel, so many many thanks for all the Qs OM, RIP.
73, JonW0ZQ
