Hello Zack,
Here is a video with a guy using a Quansheng UV-K6 on CW for a SOTA activation.

He's using paddles, but I plan on using a straight key. The radio's PTT switch can be used to send CW.
There are at least two different groups or people writing new firmware for this radio. I've loaded the IJV v3 onto my radio.
The manual and instructions can be found here:

The radios are cheap, I think I paid $29 plus tax for mine.
To get the firmware changed you have to:1. download the firmware you want. 2. Use a program to save some of the memory in the radio so you can reload it after you make the firmware change. 3. Use that program to load the new firmware into the radio. 4. Do a reset of the radio. 5. load the settings you saved earlier back into the radio.
There is also a way to allow the CHIRP program to work with the modified radio, so that you can program the memory channels in the radio, so you can put all your local repeaters in it if you want to use it as a regular dual band FM HT.
It looks like this radio and a W1GHZ transverter could be a cheap way to get some new users on our microwave bands.
