Aurora'24, an ARRL Operating Specialty Convention, will be held at the West Medicine Lake Community Center located at 1705 Forestview Lane North, Plymouth, on Saturday, June 1, from 9:00 am - 5:00 pm (CDT). Aurora, the largest annual gathering of weak-signal VHFers in the Upper Midwest, is the annual meeting of the Northern Lights Radio Society. First hosted by Jon Lieberg, KØFQA (SK), in 1984, making this the 41st conference. In the morning hours, the club runs an outdoor antenna range from 0900 to 1130 (weather permitting). The morning also allows for socializing, show and tell, and casual demonstrations. For lunch you are on your own, or, join us for the on-site pre-paid pizza lunch. The technical programs start at 1300 and typically run until 1700 or 1730.
This years technical program schedule is as follows:
- The Circular Folded Dipole for 50 MHz - K0XL
- 902 EME WAS Pursuit From The Corn Fields of Iowa - K0DAS, AC0RA
- NLRS Business Meeting
- A Novel 'CoCo' Antenna for 6m - K8OS
- VHF Rover Grid DXpedition - W0ZF, AE0EE
Registration for the conference is now open. To learn more about the conference and to register for it, go to our club's website at https://www.nlrs.club/ and click on the "Aurora Conference" tab on the left hand side. Follow the directions there. Note that registration is by mail-in form and checks only this year. Also note that if you wish to participate in the Pizza Lunch that you must send payment with your registration form, and your registration form and payment must be received by May 30, 2024 in order for us to order enough food. No walk-up pizza orders the day of the conference!! Also please note that we have both a reduced Family fee as well as a First Time Attendee fee (free !) on the registration form.
Aurora is always a good time to see, learn and to share ideas with like minded fellow VHFers. If you know of someone who has a growing interest in this facet of our amazing hobby, invite them along. Please share this information with others.
I hope to see you at this years conference.
