Comments:

This was a pretty casual effort, as I was a couple hours late getting
started
and had some other work to do at the Farm. But I'd had a couple rovers
and a few
fixed stations who were asking if I'd be on. I also thought I should get
back
on 6m digital again after a few years off, this being near the top of the
sunspot cycle and seemingly a chance for some DX. The only DX I found
was XE2OR.
Not even any California stations.

I thought I'd just try Low Power, as I've been doing very well at home
working
DX on low power and wires. However, 100W wasn't doing much on 6m Saturday
evening, so when it came time to work meteors I moved up to 400W. That
worked
pretty well, and Sunday I had a couple decent but short SSB runs in the
morning.
I only did analog on the higher bands, and then pretty much just on demand.

There's an obvious problem with FT8 ops not recognizing when the band is
open
and moving to SSB/CW. DUH: when distant stations are all red on the
waterfall,
when they are coming in +20 and better, it's time to switch modes. Maybe
someone can make a propagation-triggered FT8 beacon that sends "TRY SSB
NOW". We are really missing out, as running 6m SSB in a hot E-skip opening
is about as fun as contesting can get.

All in all June VHF is still pretty fun! I quit a couple hours early but
still
got 119 grids on 6m in a day, and that's pretty good. Thanks to KC0P/R and
N0HZO/R for being out and about yet again.
