Our "monthly" Breakfast is at the Maple Grove location in August (even month). Its been a
while since we've been there, as the June meeting was replaced by the Aurora conference
and Business meeting. We're back to the schedule now.
NOTE: the September meeting will be the FIRST Saturday (2 Sep - yes, Labor Day weekend) to
miss the Sept VHF Contest on the 2nd weekend (and at the MapleWOOD location).
The Maple Grove Golden Corral location is 13603 Grove Drive, Maple Grove,
MN. 55311. This is in the commercial area immediately north of the I-94/I-695/I-
494 junction in the NW metro.
Check the NLRS web site (https://www.nlrs.club/#Monthly%20Breakfasts) for details,
directions, and maps.
DIRECTIONS (in case you don't want to go to the web site)
Exit I-94 on Weaver Lake Road EASTBOUND.
(Weaver Lake Road is the FIRST exit North (West ?) of the Interstate junction.)
Go EAST on Weaver Lake Road to the traffic light at 83rd Way N and turn
SOUTH. Cross Grove Drive into the large parking lot. The Golden Corral is at
the OTHER END of the parking lot, ahead of you. Follow the aisle until you can
turn right in the parking area in front of the Golden Corral. (The door is the NE
corner of the building)
The Golden Corral OPENS at 9:00 AM at this locations.
There's no presentation lined up for Saturday, so we'll have to entertain ourselves.
Of course, if something comes up and you have something to talk about, let me know
and I'll announce it here.
Its a bit early even for long-range forecasts, but it looks decent: rain 50% Friday,
clearing late and then nice on Saturday, high near 80. Mostly clear Saturday night.
ALSO, the Perseids meteor shower is supposed to peak the night of the 12-13th of August.
The visible meteor count is predicted to be 60-80 per HOUR... so maybe 1 a minute !! The
radiant (where the meteors appear to come from) will be high in the northeast, just below
and to the right of Cassiopeia (the 'W' on its side). If possible, get out and away from
the city lights. The darker the sky the better. Although its early in the morning, the
best time will be 2-4 AM when the radiant will be almost due south.
If you can't watch, you might want to point your beam NE - E - S over the hours and listen
on 6 and 2m for meteor signals. The digital modes will be active and there may also be
some SSB and even high-speed CW. Work FAST... no chatting. Both calls, exchange GRIDS -
4 character - and acknowledgements EX SSB: (Heard, say, W4ABC calling CQ, or 'tail-end'
another Q) "W4ABC WA2VOI EN34 Break" "WA2VOI W4ABC Roger FM04 Break" "W4ABC Roger" That
exchange is ~15 seconds OR LESS. Speak clearly, but fast. Saves repeats.
Good hunting.
Hope to see a bunch of you at Breakfast.
