N9LB ARRL 222 and above contest report from EN52HV, 10 miles south of
Madison WI.
I ran Classic Modes only: SSB and CW
30 QSOs, I operated on 222, 432, 902, 1296, 10 GHz
Best DX on 222 was N8ECH at 335 miles ( tried 432, no luck )
K2YAZ on 222, 432, 902. ( tried 10G, no luck ) 219 miles.
W9ZIH on 222, 432, 1296, 10G
Rover Team of Mel KC0P and Carol N0HZO provided Q’s from 3 grids on 3 bands
each ( 18 Q’s total )
(222, 432, 902, distance 136 to 142 miles)
Thank You Mel and Carol for being out there. They were the only rovers
worked this year.
Tried 10 GHz across the lake with Doug-K8DP & Daughter Grace-KE8RJU ( no
luck )
Looked and called North-West many times, looking for the many active NLRS
folks. W0ZQ, K0KFC, K0AWU, KA0PQW, W0AAT, K0VG ( No luck )
Also looked and called South-East many times, produced a contact with
KC9PCP. Possibly the Chicago area ops were out on 10 Ghz roves?
Also looked and called East many times for MI and Detroit area stations,
produced no Q’s other than K2YAZ and N8ECH.
Found the background noise on 222 and 432 was much higher than in the
past. My suspicion is that the new all-digital cable system in my
neighborhood is leaking digital TV channel “noise” on VHF and UHF. If you
answered my calls, I could not hear you.
I hope to contact you all in the ARRL September VHF and Fall Sprints.
