I think if the FM only class could operate from more than one location, that could help attract new operators.  I understand from your previous communications that there will never be an FM only Rover category but if FM only did not have to be fixed station I think that would attract more players.DanN0SPN/Rover !

Hi Bill.  Thanks for sharing your perspective on the 222 & Up Contest from EN37.  Whatever the contest format is/was, some of my most enjoyable Qs have been with you from the W0ZQ/R using that antiquated mode call continuous wave.  Yes, often with a straight key on my end.  Peaking up the 902 or 1296 antennas and hearing your CW signals always brought a smile to my face; fun.   Like you, and I think like a lot of op's are, we are in this for the fun.
Speaking of the UHF/222 & Up Contest, this particular contest has never gathered synergy regardless of its format.   While the big three ARRL contests of January, June and September, along with the EME and 10 GHz & Up contests have shown growth (as measured in logs received), the 222 & Up Contest has been flat or in slow decline.  In fact, last year for the first time the 10GHz & Up Contest had more submitted logs than did the 222 & Up Contest.   I think a part of the problem may be the scheduling of the contest with the 222 & Up being just ahead of the two weekends of the 10 GHz and also in conflict with NAQP (for which some of us are also HF contesters).   For me, CQWW VHF in July, then Central States, then the 222 & Up contest followed by two weekends of the 10 GHz contest, then the September, then sandwich in a weekend (for me) for the KSQP and its a very busy time.  As we get older bandwidth seems to decrease !
But there is some good news here.   These contests, pick one, are our contests.  If there is something we don't like, or even better yet a well constructed suggestion as to how to have more fun, create growth, etc, let you Director and CAC representative know.  Our Dakota Division Director is Bill, AC0W while our CAC rep is me.  I can tell you in absolute good faith that the CAC, and especially their VHF+ working subcommittee, is VERY interest in ideas as to how to make any of these contests better and out of the box thinking (sorry for using that term) is welcomed.
Hope to work you this weekend, I'll be on the UC reflector part time too.   All modes.  I can do digital on 222, 432 and 1296.  Looks like rain for us on Sat evening into Sunday which we desperately need.
