AE0EE and I went out to SD in the Classic Rover class, where we met up with
K0BBC/R. Started the contest at the Summit rest area EN15), with pretty
slow rate. Things improved later as we headed west through EN05. In DN95 we
met up with KI0D/R for dinner and a few Qs on the DN95/EN05 line, then
headed south to Gettysburg (where the battle wasn't) to stay overnight. On
Sunday we worked our way back east, through DN94, EN04, EN14, then up near
Dawson MN to run the EN14/EN24/EN15/EN25 corner. K0BBC headed back to SD,
while Bill and I made our way through EN24 and home to EN34.
We worked stations on CW and SSB, as well as MSK144 and FT8. Sadly, there
were many times where signals were very strong on FT8 but nothing on the CW
and SSB portions of the band.
We crossed paths with an unexpected rover from Kansas and worked them in a
few grids; an unusual occurrence in SD. Thanks to WB0ULX for multiple
band/grids on our trip through the prairie.
The new antenna stacking arrangement worked far better than what we used on
previous outings, with much less interaction between bands and no blown
front ends. As usual, we documented several potential improvements for the
rover station, and will work on those for the next contest.
The raw QSO count will be reduced somewhat as we ended up exceeding the
limit for contacts with a single rover station, but here's the results as
logged:
