Hello NLRS land..The ARRL January VHF contest is next weekend, January
16-17. As I recall, last year we had some fairly good 6m propagation.
Given its January, the higher bands are always a challenge, but that is why
they have higher points assigned to them. While the digital modes have come
to dominate, especially on 6m, don't forget that many op's can still be
found on SSB, FM and CW too, so once and a while take a break from the
waterfall screen and give a call on one of the other modes. Also, post your
plans to Paul's Upper Midwest activity page
at https://tinyurl.com/VHFss2021..W0ZQ will be on to pass out some Q's and
maybe, weather permitting, to make some uW Q's as well. We will be keeping
an eye on the weather to see if we can deploy the rover in some limited
fashion. ..Following the VHF contest, on Saturday Feb 6, is the Minnesota
QSO Party (MnQP). Yes, its not VHF, but its good to dabble in the dark side
from time to time. So disconnect your IF rig from your transverter and give
the MnQP a try. The contest runs from 8am to 6pm and the contest exchange
is your name and county, like "Jon in Hennepin". Full rules
at https://www.w0aa.org/mn-qso-party/ or ask me. Check out the Activity
Map as well. ..73, JonW0ZQ
