GA All,

That is a useful document still but that is a 28 ft antenna to a single looper...there are a relatively small number of guys you can work that way...when conditions are very good. you need more ERP if you want to do more than work these few.

Helix antennas are a complete waste of time...there is not enough gain in an array of Helix antennas...they peter out gain wise and the gain vs directivity are 2 different things. You will not get enough isolation between antennas to prevent preamp damage without a relay on RX...unless the antennas are very widely separated...not too practical.

I have some other presentations that I can share if you email me. VE4MO had 4 loopers and did well working up to 30 stations with 100W. With a 5 ft dish in AZ I worked 60+ stations ( could have been a lot more if I chased JT QSOs) with 30 on CW.

If you have a single 45/ 55 looper you will be able to decode some of the big guys but you MUST have a good preamp right at the antenna.

The ARRL EME contest coming up can be a good time to listen as there are a lot of Big guns in EU that are avid contesters so they are on there. But the ARRL is stupid with this contest, as its 50-1296 MHz on 2 weekends, so what band are we going to operate and when....so activity can be dispersed accross the bands.

As Jon said, you must have a good eastern window as that's where all the activity is !
