My contest score was . . . drum roll . . . zero!
It's not surprising, since it sounds like there was a lot of action on 6
meters, and the only thing I had available was 2 meter FM. I occasionally put
out calls on 146.55 and 146.46, and also monitored when I was near the radio,
but had no takers.
I will be on 2 meter FM again for Field Day. I believe 146.52 is OK for that
non-contest. I'll double check, but that's where I'll be. I'll probably be
on 20, 6, and 2 meters. It will be a very minimalist socially distanced
operation from a city park in Roseville. I'll have a dipole for 20, which
seems to load up OK on 6. 2 meters (and maybe 440) will just be a handheld.
I'm very anxious to make at least one QSO on 2 meters, since my wife will also
be operating, and at some point, we want to have two transmitters on the air
to put us in the rare (for this year) 2B category. So please swing the beam
toward Roseville and listen for the weak ones.
I think it's important this year to operate Field Day from an actual field,
and toward that end, I have formed a new club, The Outstanding In Their Field
Amateur Radio Field Day Club. My hope is that other like-minded portable ops
join my club so that we can get a higher score than groups of home stations
working each other. If you're planning to name NLRS or some other club in
your entry, then please do so. But if you don't have plans to do that, please
consider naming The Outstanding In Their Field Amateur Radio Field Day Club in
your class A or B entry. If you name the club, you're automatically a member.
Unlike the club competition in other contests, there is no geographic
restriction. More information about the club is available at this link:
