"Well that was interesting!" Another June contest dominated by 6m Es. Hey what the heck, it's radio. I just really enjoy VOICES from the past in the white noise OR booming through on those "higher" bands. I don't think I worked any local rovers except for Mel & Carol yesterday in EN35. Thanks guys. I heard Wyatt once Sunday, good sig but he was QSYing and I never heard him again. That was on 2m, I tried to catch him but no luck.
The 6m stuff ended up being mostly SLOW QSO's on FT8, like watching paint dry! Nice grids to the west showed up on Sunday. But did work a fair amount of 6m SSB as well. Amazing the number of unfamiliar (to me) calls from MN/WI on 6m FT8. I will say that was GREAT and very fun to see new blood in A VHF contest and I'll bet they where having FUN operating VHF. Also work a handful on 2m FT8 as well.
I had a brief 432m amp failure Sat early on. ALL plate current, grid current values on the 4CX250b amp were normal, but NO RF out on the Bird. Well .... We have had a "new cat - Butter Scotch" here for the last year or so. "Butter" early on could NOT be kept out of the biggest rack. I had to install all kinds of protection, but he would find workarounds. The 432 amp is the top amp and I think he was responsible to contributing to a DC line failure to the antenna change over on the amp output. There could have been no easier amp / relay to get to than that one being at the top!! 10min to trouble shoot and repaired. Happy Camper and silly kitty!
Really enjoyed running the bands with Vern K0VG on FT8 he had great sigs here on 6,2,432 FT8 -- he coordinated with the FT8 custom messages and it worked slick.
Radio fun .... Thanks for the activity all
