[NLRS] The New Normal?

I first really felt the influence of FT8 on 6m at last years Field Day. For a few years I helped out our local club setting up and running a VHF station for them.
As Rich mentioned there were a few contacts here and there that were 9++ kinds of signals but there were no runs no matter how I tried. Typical events over the past years have generally netted 250-500 6m SSB Q's. The FT8 frequency was constantly busy of course. I suppose my lesson is next year I need an FT8 interface...
Perhaps I'll just apply another coat of wax to the case of my Johnson Viking and yell at the kids to get off my lawn.
Only thing that is inevitable is change.

Speaking of unexpected Qs, did anyone else take part in the 6m
opening to Alaska and Japan last night? I don't know when it
started, but it lasted until 0730 UTC last night/this morning.

All my 6m antennas were down, but I was still able to work Alaska
using my 30m beam on 6m. I was seeing up to 25 Japanese calls per
15 second period on FT8, but was unable to work any of the JAs.
Most of the JAs were -10 to -20; I'm sure that I could have
worked some if I had had one of the 6m antennas up in the air.

I, too, miss the CW and SSB activity, but as Jon mentioned in his
note, FT8 isn't all bad.
