Hi Jon,
Bear in mind that this is coming from a guy who is pretty
computer illiterate.
Running multiple instances of WSJT-X is addressed in the local
Help file under FAQ, question #2. I didn't really understand
that, so here's how I did it.
After installing WSJT-X, I created multiple shortcuts on my
desktop pointing to the wsjt.exe file. I then went to Properties
for each shortcut and modified the target name to reflect the
different bands.
To make it clearer: My wsjt.exe file is located in
C:\\WSJT\wsjtx\bin\wsjt.exe
I created several shortcuts to that file. I then right-clicked on
a shortcut and selected Properties. I then changed the target to:
C:\\WSJT\wsjtx\bin\wsjt.exe --rig-name=6M
I then closed the shortcut and reopened it in order to rename it.
I renamed it WSJT-X 6M.
I then moved on to the next shortcut and changed the target to:
C:\\WSJT\wsjtx\bin\wsjt.exe --rig=name=2M
and likewise renamed the shortcut to WSJT-X 2m
I did the same for 222 MHz and 630 m. Now I can just click on a
shortcut and it brings up the appropriate instance for that
selected band. I often run 2 bands at once using this method. I
haven't tried 3.
That computer runs an i7-3770 CPU (4 cores, 8 threads) at 3.4 GHz
and handles 2 instances of WSJT-X at once easily. I have an older
laptop that has all it can do to run a single instance, though,
so your mileage may vary.
