I plan on being on from EN27 again, 6M 2M and 70CM.
During the fall 50MHZ Sprint I thought it was going to be a total bust. I had storms to the east and south of me. Not hearing any activity from EN34 and EN35. The last hour of the contest I had openings to the west coast and also worked a couple east coast.
I had another fellow the needed EN27 from Indiana. He got on at the end of the sprint and could copy me but I couldn’t copy him because of the QRN from the storms on FT8. We decided to try MSK144. The display just showed a solid line of static crashes but his decode popped up. I was running 100W into a 4el and he was running 1K. We finished the QSO a couple minutes after the sprint.
I was wondering if this was some sort of 6M rain scatter? The line of storms was from International Falls down to Fergus Falls.
I think the MSK144 mode is under used. I have had several other requests for contacts from EN27 and was able to do them with MSK144 usually in the morning from 8 to 9:30.
My EN27 station is a Kenwood TS 2000, 4el Yagi at 40’, with about 100’ of LMR400. I think my biggest advantage up there is the low noise level.
