Comments:
This contest was full of surprises and it started off before the contest got
started. I was 100 yards from my first stop when the serpentine belt broke
on my
truck. Turns out the tensioner pulley was the cause as it blew to pieces. A
HUGE
thanks goes out to K9JK/R who picked up the needed parts for me. I was able
to
get started operating the contest until JK showed up with the parts and
then I
had to take 55 minutes off during a prime Eskip opening so probably lost 75
or
more qsos there.
Eskip was good most for several hours Saturday and then mostly dead Sunday
until
the last 2 hours of the contest. Compared to last year 6m was a little down
and
2m was a bit up. FT8 on 2m was fairly active which was nice. FT8 on 6m was
slug
fest and nearly had me falling asleep at times. When Eskip is dead MSK144
would
make alot of the brute force FT8 qsos go alot faster.
Sunday morning activity on 6m MSK144 seemed about average for what it is any
random day of the week. 2m had a few more then normal on. On both bands
there
are many stations that have really bad ears. Quite a few stations I found
unworkable on 2m cause they couldn't hear me. 1400w isn't enough?
One highlight on FT8 was working South Korea for a new dxcc. Another
highlight
was getting called by EA8 station twice on ssb.
Looking forward to next years contest already!
