[NLRS] Wabted to buy DEMI 144-28INT

DB6NT makes transverters in Germany. There is another group in eastern
Europe making transverters at very low costs, but not superb performance
and I don't remember their call sign and didn't find it in recent
trashed e-mails.

Last I'd heard about VHF transverters from DEMI was that DEMI had sold
that product line to another company and DEMI had ceased production and
sales.

I use three Yaesu FT-857D for a bit of HF and all my VHF operation. They
run 100 watts out on 6, 50 on 2 and 20 on 32 and have decent receivers
and the D option gives them DSP noise reduction and audio bandpass
filtering that is a benefit. The FT-897 is a little larger but very
similar inside. The newer models FT-991(a) supply more VHF power and
digital (Yaesu that is) mode.

For 10 GHz I also use my third FT-857D and went into the alignment menu
and turned down the transmitter IF gain so it only puts out 2 watts. Its
possible to set the power from the front panel using the ALC circuitry,
but it tends to spike at the beginning of a transmission before the ALC
takes over. There is no spike in any mode with the transmitter gain
turned down in the alignment menu.
