[NLRS] Repeaters in trouble in Cailfornia

It is amazing how this story got all twisted out of all proportion. Apparently the Internet is a big nationwide/global variant of the old Telephone experiment of many people telling a story complete with issues with fidelity to the source with each telling.
Basically the state of CA said that previous free sites on state owned towers may incur rent going forward. Somehow that doesn't seem sinister to me, we all face the realities of life. I'm currently a trustee for 4 repeaters and while our club has worked hard to maintain free rent on city towers, there are no guarantees of continued free lunch. Next Spring we will actually lose one of the sites as we won't be able to pay to stay on it after they do a tower restoration.
The right to question the usefulness of amateur radio during emergencies I think is possibly well earned. I would like to say that all hams are highly skilled and very effective operators, but I've sure seen a lot of people drawn into EmCom that don't make amateurs look too competent in the eyes of emergency agencies :(

 Hi all,

While i am glad that the artical has been debunked and all it is
something  to think about.

You know back when they went to digital t v. Thema Federal emergency
aAgency was given a very large chunk of spectrom in the 700mhz band.

This was for a nation wide network of some kind.

So i do think there are people in the government who would like to get
rid of amature radio.

They are probably not saying alot but something i think we should be
aware of.

I don't think it's something to be out right alarmed over but just
something to think about.

Thanks 73 Matt ka0pqw
