home I'm not polluting the list - barry w0iy

 From w0sj:

The spectrum analyzer was purchased new by a ham here in town named
Steve. He liked to build things.  When he passed away, his widow could
not bear even going in his hamshack for three years.  The analyzer was
purchased by a guy who lived in Waterloo and he is now in a nursing home
with MS.  The unit has hardly been used. I don’t need it because I
already have 3 spectrum analyzers.  I need to find it a good home.

Back in the olden days at the Collins surplus store, broken spectrum
analyzers went for $500.  Here is one in perfect shape and it can be had
for $600 with manual.  I am not listing it on QTH.com or eHam because I
don’t want to ship it.  I want it to go to a fellow ham who will use it
and not try to sell it for a profit on ebay (like the greedy guys at the
Collins surplus store use to).

I would like any prospective buyer to convince me he knows how to use it
and will use it.  I don’t want it to sit on a shelf in some collector’s
closet.  This is the programmable version so it can be controlled from a
computer for automated testing.  The Tektronix 496P service manual is
available on the internet.

When I put a whip antenna on it, set the center frequency to 98 MHz, and
the span to 2 MHz per division, (88 to 108 MHz) I can see all the local
FM radio stations.  The digital storage gives a steady display. It has a
nicer display than my HP8561B but I have a tracking generator for my
HP8561B and I don’t have a tracking generator to go with the Tektronix
496B.

Such is life!

Thanks Barry and best 73 to you.
